Missions in California

Missions in California?

When I was called to missions at the age of 15 I had a very traditional view of what that meant and what it would look like. I saw myself in a hut somewhere hot, eating questionable food, not speaking the language, and not seeing my family for years. I will say that I have experienced all of those things many times in my 10 years of missions, and yet my missions experience has been the opposite of traditional. In Youth With A Mission (YWAM) we focus on Knowing God and Making Him known, which has looked different depending on the needs of the people God has lead me to at different times. I have learned the importance of simple obedience and not putting God in a box when it comes to ’missions’. When God lead me to return to California not to get a job but continue to serve in YWAM I was able to trust God’s mission assignment in my life. The people here may have heard of Jesus and yet many have not experienced Jesus‘ love and Lordship. Someone told me thatGod has no grandchildren only sons and daughters” and this has so affected how I see “Christian” Nations. So, what does missions look like in California? The same as anywhere else in the world, helping individuals encounter the transforming love of Jesus.
